BACG Activities

Since 1969 the BACG has encouraged national and international scientific and technological communication and discussion of the theory and practice of crystal growth, crystallisation and the appraisal of crystals.

The Association has held an annual conference each year since 1970, normally at a University, and has participated in over 10 European and International Crystal Growth conferences held in the U.K.

As a Registered Charity the Association takes its educational role seriously and sponsors members to attend various associated conferences worldwide.

A Young Scientist Award competition is run each year, for published work by members who are under 35 years of age, with a commemorative medal and a £250 cash prize for the winner.

From 1980 onwards the Association issued several Newsletters per year covering crystal growth news, conference reports and diary and membership news - functions now performed by this website.

Membership

Membership of the Association has oscillated between 80 and over 500. The current figure is ~200 with around 20 overseas members.

Over half the members are in Academic Institutions with ~ a third in industry and ~ 10% in Government service.

Why not join yourself? It only costs £8 p.a. which can be recouped by reductions in the cost of your first conference! In addition you will be eligible to apply for sponsorship to attend conferences and may be nominated for the Young Scientist Award.

Please follow the instructions in the Membership section of this website.
