The BACG has always been a multidisciplinary organization, spanning physics, chemistry, materials science, chemical and electrical engineering, long before this approach had penetrated universities, which were then still rigidly departmental, although it was a model the best industrial laboratories followed. Inevitably, at any one time, some area of activity assumes prominence, and when we started in 1969 semiconductor science and technology featured strongly in our programmes. Single crystals, in bulk and thin film form were in great demand and means of studying their structural and electronic properties were being rapidly developed. Over the course of time, however, fashionable topics wax and wane and it is no longer the case that semiconductors rule the world of crystal growth. Pharmaceuticals, bulk crystallization and organic materials generally have now assumed a much stronger role in the Association’s activities. This simply emphasizes the value of our multidisciplinary ethos – we can all learn from each other. In the context of learning we also try to help up and coming research students by providing bursaries for them to attend relevant conferences and we support major crystal growth conferences with start-up funds. - crystals, crystal growth, crystallisation - BACG - British Association for Crystal Growth - BACG - Site Designed and Hosted by EffortlessWebSite (www.effortlesswebsite.com) which is operated by Flight 9000 Ltd (www.flight9000.com)
